Organized by the Okinawa Prefecture Shimakutuba (Ryukyuan languages) Promotion Center, I have attended the “Shimakutuba Instructor Training Course”, held for the first time in Yaeyama. sponsored by the Okinawa Prefecture Shimakutuba Promotion Center for the first time in Yaeyama. This week, I received the certificate and notification of passing the final exam. This course aims to train instructors to help teach Ryukyuan languages that are designated as UNESCO endangered languages to the next generation. The course not only focuses on the languages themselves but also connects them to the culture and the history of the Ryukyu Islands. Nohoho will continue to promote Ryukyuan languages/dialects in general, and Yaeyama shimamuni language in particular, as an important element of culture and sustainable development.
